All eyes will be on the weather forecast for this Saturday morning with the 2020-2021 trout season officially set to open at midnight Friday, and yes some people are really that keen to wet a line the second the clock strikes midnight!
FOUR SPRINGS LAKE
Four Springs is always popular on opening day due to its proximity to Launceston. Four Springs has recently been stocked with 200 small Trout ready for the influx of anglers over the coming weeks. Hardbody and Soft Plastic Lures both work well out at Four Springs.
BRUMBYS CREEK
A great local river to explore and fish. Brumbys Creek is set up with anglers in mind providing great access all along its banks. All methods of fishing work well out here. For the soft plastic and lure fisherman, fishing under the weir can produce some amazing fish, shallow diving lures working the best. A perfectly placed soft plastic lured cast under the weir and worked back through the fast water can be deadly.
NORTH & EAST COAST
Species: Bluefin Tuna.
The run of Bluefin Tuna on the East Coast is slowly quieting down with fewer and fewer catches reported each week. Still hearing rumours of sightings on the North Coast, but none landed that we know of.
SCHOUTEN ISLAND
Species: Striped Trumpeter & Morwong
And finally there has been some absolute thumpers being caught just south of Schouten Island.
